During Carers Week, the Life After Stroke Service brought together carers of stroke survivors from across Barnsley for a special information and wellbeing event, supported through EyUp! funding.
The event, held in partnership with Barnsley Carers Service and Barnsley Beacon, provided an opportunity for carers to connect with one another and access practical advice. They were also able to learn about the range of support services available to them, including the new Carers Connect app for South Yorkshire carers, helping them stay connected and informed.
Following the event, carers shared their experiences and feedback:
“It’s been really nice to spend time with other carers and stroke survivors. I’ve learned so much more about what support is out there.”
“It’s been a great session. I didn’t realise I could sign up with Barnsley Carers Service and access so much support.”
Donna Stringer, Stroke Support Coordinator commented “It was a great event and an opportunity for me to learn more about the services on offer, which will help me provide better support when meeting stroke survivors and their carers and partners.”
Gillian Richmond-Burns, Life After Stroke Coordinator commented “Support for carers is integral to the support we offer stroke survivors. The knowledge and connections gained through this event will help us going forward as we support others in Barnsley.”
