During Carers Week, in June last year, Carers Count and partner organisations held a community event in Kirklees to help unpaid carers access information, support, and resources.
Held outdoors in a local park, the event supported existing carers while also raising awareness among new carers and the wider public, leading to 10 new referrals.
With £500 funding from EyUp!, Carers Count expanded the event to include wellbeing activities, food, and a broader range of information stalls, including solicitors, Healthwatch, charities, and organisations offering therapeutic support. This strengthened partnership working and improved pathways between services.
Feedback was extremely positive. One carer shared “The event was really well organised. I enjoyed meeting other carers and having all the information and support in one place. It was a great day and incredibly helpful.”
Bilal Passwala from Carers Count commented “The funding enabled us to broaden our activities, strengthen our outreach, and create a more meaningful experience for carers, their families, and the local community. Carers benefited from increased social connection and improved access to support.”
