In June 2024, the Wakefield adult community learning disabilities health team was awarded £300 to help with room hire and a bowling activity for service users in Wakefield.
The room was used to host community activities and exercise groups in Wakefield. The event, focused on increasing engagement from local individuals with learning disabilities, offering them the opportunity to participate in physical activities and social interactions.
Over the two days, all service users had a great time, fully engaging in the activities and making the most of the opportunity. Families were enthusiastic and asked for more information, expressing interest in attending the weekly groups based on the positive experience they had during the taster session.
Claire Copley, advanced nurse practitioner in the Wakefield community nursing team said; “We’re looking at expanding this event, making it bigger and better.
“We have been talking with Yorkshire Sport and Wakefield Trinity Disability Team in preparation for future events.”
