EyUp! charity has helped a service user who is receiving end of life care spend some quality time with family on a day out.
The day out enabled the service user to reconnect with activities they take pride in and enjoy doing with their family. The visit included a visit to a local donkey sanctuary which they are a proud volunteer for, and which had a huge positive impact on both his physical and mental wellbeing. Family were able to see the opportunities they have been able to get involved in at the donkey sanctuary while under services at the Trust.
The day also included a meal out, and a visit to Junction 32 Shopping Outlet where the service user took the opportunity to treat family to some gifts.
The day was rounded off with a walk around their favourite park, Pugneys, which is somewhere they love to go.
Maddison Shaw, occupational therapist at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said “This trip strongly supports the care values of ‘carers matter’ and has had a huge impact on the wellbeing of our service user, helping create memories with their family. It demonstrates the importance of involving those closest to our service users within their journey and recovery while in hospital.
“This visit was planned and facilitated by our wonderful occupational therapy assistant Alice. Her hard work and commitment to our service users is widely recognised and she is an asset to the team!”
