EyUp! awarded £390 to Drury Lane Health and Wellbeing Centre, Wakefield, to invest in activity tables for their waiting rooms to provide service users with interesting activities while waiting for appointments.
Some service users and children may feel anxious or restless whilst waiting for their appointments. The team thought It would be a good idea to offer some alternative relaxation methods to engage or support them whilst they wait.
An activity table with a map of a town and toy cars to move around the map was put in the children’s waiting area.
A parent commented “Keeping children occupied while we wait is a brilliant idea, it helps create a calmer atmosphere for them before their appointments”.
Another activity table was placed in the memory services waiting room so that service users can do a puzzle and other activities. Feedback has been positive with service users commenting.
“Being able to do puzzles is a relaxing way to pass time while we are wait.”
“The activities are fun and make waiting more enjoyable.”
Julie Szalkiewicz, locality resource manager said “It is really rewarding seeing service users interacting and enjoying the equipment. Though most of our service users only wait a short time before their appointment, the new equipment is proving helpful and popular. We hope to expand on this area to help stimulate some of our service users with dementia/memory problems soon.”
