EyUp! have joined forces with Stainborough Rotary club members, staff and service users to complete an impressive 36 mile bike ride, raising vital funds and the spirits of everyone who took part.
Starting at Kendray hospital in Barnsley, the cyclists set off and cycled to Fieldhead Hospital in Wakefield. Undeterred by the distance, the cyclists arrived at Fieldhead and were treated to brownies and drinks, provided by the hospital’s canteen. The welcome pit stop was followed by another 18 mile bike ride back to Kendray. The 36 mile round trip was completed over the course of a whole day. At the end of the trip, the cyclists where euphoric, proud to finish the ambitious fundraising bike ride.
Richard Fletcher, Joint President of Stainborough rotary club commented: “It was our pleasure to organise the inaugural bike ride fundraising event. Many of our members took part and hugely enjoyed the experience. We plan to repeat the event next year. We are proud to support EyUp! who find creative and fantastic ways to support service users and staff at the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.”
Mark Brooks, the Trust’s chief executive commented:
“I am thrilled to see EyUp! working with the Stainborough Rotary club to raise much needed funds, which will be used to support service users and staff. Thanks to everyone at the rotary club who worked so hard to plan and deliver the event.”
Damon a service user commented:
“The EyUp! Charity bike ride was fantastic, [I was] very nervous/anxious before the start, but once we had set off the nervousness/anxiousness settled was great. It boosted my self-esteem, it alleviated my depression and anxiety. I loved the challenge, felt fantastic, and was great compliment to get over the finish line.”
A HUGE thank you to members of Stainborough Rotary Club and everyone that took part, helping to raise £1554.15!
