In September 2023, Philippa Moreno from Denby Dale, took part in the Great North Run, raising over £600 for EyUp! charity in loving memory of her brother Nick.
The Great North Run is the world’s biggest half marathon, with 60,000 runners taking on the route from Newcastle to South Shields each year.
The money raised will be donated to the homecare support fund and palliative care team in Barnsley who supported Nick and Philippa’s family, enabling him to spend his last days at home, where he wanted to be.
The EyUp! charity homecare support fund is used to support palliative and end of life patients in the Barnsley area. The fund helps the supportive care at home service and palliative care service to support their patients and purchase equipment and supplies that they may need. The fund relies on donations from families and relatives of patients who have been under the care of their services in the past.
Philippa said “I made a promise that if I got a ballot place for the Great North Run this year, I would run for a cause on Nick’s behalf and now I will be running in his memory too. I was encouraged knowing I am raising money for a great local cause that Nick benefited from and that others will too.”
